Kohjinsha SR UMPC: First 7" Mini Laptop with Optical Drive
Update: The Kohjinsha SCC will come in two models, a ¥59,800 (or about $592 US) version and a ¥79,800 ($780) version that includes Office 2007 personal edition, according to lilliputing. Surely, it will be a good rival for HTC Shift. Even the first model can easily compete with Low-cost Laptops like MSI Wind PC.
Until now, all UMPC and mini laptop enthusiasts have one big problem with a limitation or real weak point of their systems that it couldn’t arrange an internal optical drive. You can tolerate the same size of displays or get habit to the cramp keyboards and few numbers of I/O but solving the lack of optical drive is difficult.
Kohjinsha – a Singapore-based Company not only has solved this problem but, it has made a 7" mini laptop with the facilities of Tablet PC systems.
Kohjinsha SR8KPO6S or Kohjinsha SR comes with Intel "Stealey" 800MHz, Pentium M-based A110 processor, 1GB of 400MHz DDR2 DRAM memory, 7" LED backlight touch screen display (1024 x 600 resolution), 60GB Hard drive and built-in double-layer DVD+R and DVD-R media!
Also, this laptop is a kind of tablet PC with its touch screen display and pivots to fold down the display over the keyboard.

This UMPC compare to Eee PC, CloudBook, HP mini-note 2133 or even the 8.9" upcoming mini laptops like Eee PC 900, MSI Wind PC and ECS G10IL and Classmate PC2 etc look very attractive.
This Kohjinsha SR UMPC features 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, a 1.3 MP camera, and 3-in-1 media car reader (Memory Stick/ Compact Flash/ SD), 2 x USB, VGA port, and microphone and headphone jacks. Also, it provides standard keyboard, plus stick pointer, touchpad, and power switches for Bluetooth and the optical drive.
This UMPC weighs 2.4lbs. Wit hits standard battery it can operate up to 3.5 hours and with optional battery it will operate up to 7.2 hours.

The highlight features of this mini laptop or UMPC include:
- Intel "Stealey” A110 processor based on Intel’s new UMP 2007 platform. - Ample 1 GB of RAM and good size of storage

The two Stealey parts, dubbed A100 and A110, are based on Pentium M cores clocked at 600MHz and 800MHz, respectively. Both have 400MHz FSB (front-side bus) speeds, 512KB of L2 cache, and a 14 x 19mm package. Both are built on 90nm process technology and have a TDP (thermal design power) of 3 Watts.
The 945GU northbridge supports up to 1GB of single-channel DDR2 memory, via a pair of SO-DIMM interfaces. It has a "Gen 3.5" Intel IGP (integrated graphics processor) clocked at 133MHz, an LVDS interface, and a 1-lane PCI Express interface.
